CREATIVE CONSULTANT

Art is a career advertising professional whose contributions as a copywriter, creative director and agency principal span three decades. His ability to capture the essence of complex products and the companies behind them has helped to shape the brand images of some of America’s best known and widely admired advertisers.

After graduating from Bowling Green University in 1970, Art worked for CBS television in New York as a page on the Ed Sullivan and Merv Griffin Shows, and alongside Walter Cronkite on special CBS News coverage of the Apollo Moon Landings and national elections. He launched his advertising career as a copywriter on the Ford Motor Company account in the New York office of J. Walter Thompson Company (at the time it was the largest single account at the largest office of the largest advertising agency in the world). Art was tapped to help establish JWT’s Atlanta office in 1972. He quickly advanced to Co-Creative Director, the youngest C.D. in the agency’s 129-year history.

In 1976 Art saw new opportunity and headed west to Dallas, Texas, and Tracy-Locke/BBDO – the largest advertising agency west of the Mississippi. At Tracy-Locke he spearheaded campaigns for such national accounts as Frito-Lay, Phillips Petroleum and Pizza Inn. In 1979 Art moved across town to The Richards Group as it began forging its reputation as one of the most creative agencies in America. There, he contributed his talents to such high profile accounts as People magazine and Bennigan’s Restaurants.
Returning to Atlanta in 1980, Art joined Cargil Wilson & Acree, the Atlanta office of the legendary ad agency, Doyle Dane Bernbach, to work on the Krystal account. In 1984 he ventured out on his own to form Halperin & Company Advertising. Under his leadership the fledgling, full-service agency grew rapidly by attracting such blue chip clientele as IBM, Cub Foods, Prime Cable, Home Box Office, Nynex Business Centers, Southwire, and Freshens Premium Yogurt. Following a merger with Fricks & Associates in 1991, Art assumed duties as the new agency’s Senior Vice President and Creative Director.

In 1995 Art founded The Atlanta Advertising Group with the goal of providing small to medium-size clients with the personalized service of a nimble, fast-response, advertising and marketing communications swat team. The Atlanta Advertising Group serves a diverse group of consumer and business-to-business clients ranging from frozen treats to high tech.

Over the course of his career Art has received numerous creative awards. He is among an elite group of creative professionals whose work is included in the Smithsonian Institution’s Permanent Collection of The Best Advertising in America.
